Sundown at Rockingham International Horse Trials

Sundown was thrilled to again be the official bedding supplier for Rockingham International Horse Trials which took place on 20-22 May 2022. We also sponsored an eye-catching ‘Sundown stable’ fence on the cross country course, beautifully dressed with bales of Sundown bedding.

The event has over 100 temporary stables with competitors housing their horses for varying numbers of days depending on which events they are taking part in.  Sundown Yellow chopped rapeseed straw bedding was a popular choice with competitors, who particularly loved the fresh eucalyptus fragrance and the absorbency of the bedding. For the Rockingham Estate, this straw-based product is ideal for temporary bedding as it rots down extremely quickly to form a nitrogen-rich compost that can be spread onto their land as fertiliser.

The Sundown stable fence jumped well over all three days and multiple classes, giving horses and riders a good galloping fence after a tricky water obstacle about two-thirds of the way through the course.

We were thrilled to see Sundown brand ambassador Will Rawlin competing at Rockingham. He had two young horses competing on Friday, while his Intermediate horse, The Dominator picked up third place in the competitive CCI 2* on Saturday.

In between his riding commitments, Will led an informative cross country course walk for 20 lucky Sundown competition winners. It provided a fascinating insight as to how to ride each fence and problems to look out for, there was also lots of time for questions. After the walk we watched Will put his theory into practice when he rode a beautiful clear round.

Thank you to everyone who entered and attended the cross country course walk, we’ve had some lovely comments on Facebook!

Here are some pictures of the fence being jumped during Saturday’s CCI 2*  and CCI 3* classes on Saturday.
