Sundown was thrilled to be part of the prestigious British Eventing International Youth Championships held for the first time in 2021 at Bishops Burton College at the end of July. We sponsored the gilets worn by the East Midlands under 18 team and were at the event to support all the horses and riders.
More than 250 of the most talented young riders from across the UK competed in the three-day-event at BE90, BE100 and CCI-L YR2*level jumping. The standard of the college facilities was much appreciated, as was the fantastic spectacle of the Opening Ceremony. Trot-ups and dressage tests were followed by cross country day where the riders tackled an exhilarating cross country course designed by Joe Weller.
Each region took a squad of up to 10 riders at each level, all of whom were privileged to have been selected thanks to their good form at local level.
All riders and support crew headed to the event with great excitement and the competition was very keen. The leader board at each level was in constant flux with the final placings determined on the final day where riders jumped in reverse order. The tension grew and mistakes were made resulting in the most exciting of finishes in the show jumping ring.
It was an honour to watch these young athletes and their horses, we feel sure that we may have witnessed future champions on the world stage!
